The Mosaic Centre is a charity in Edmonton that serves people challenged by poverty and homelessness. They are founded three women – Kelly, Linda Megan- who saw the need for their most vulnerable citizens in the northeast area of our city to have access to resources. We met with them in 2016 to discuss a fundraising video and felt a special connection right away. The Mosaic Centre started out with the ladies and other volunteers handing out sandwiches and water from a van, and transformed into a wellness centre serving a vastly growing population. Up to this point in Mosaic Centre’s existence they relied heavily on funds donated by churches and their congregations and they needed to diversify. They created a campaign called 52 weeks of IMPACT where they called for 52 donations of $2,000 for sponsorship of the Mosaic Centre for one week of the year. They were relatively new on the non-profit scene and were virtually unheard of then. They wanted a video and knew they needed something special to stand out. Learning about the people and hearing their stories made us want to take a more a narrative approach. Something that really touched us was when they said that all people are welcome at the Mosaic Centre, and judgment is left at the door. They are not social workers. They exist to be a friend to all and that is having an impact because there are line-ups of people waiting to get in every Monday morning. They have also been working hard to establish meaningful relationships within their communities, residents, businesses and beat officers. We took that and before we knew it, the story was scripted and the characters cast. With a lot of love this cherished project exceeded our expectations. The clients who are now under The Mustard Seed used it for their fundraising efforts for many years. We also received recognition from both the Edmonton ACE Awards and the Hermes Creative Awards in 2017 which was another sweet blessing for this awesome group.
